General Information
The National Kappa League Debate Challenge is a premier academic competition that empowers young men of color through the art of debate. Established in 1922, it focuses on developing critical thinking, public speaking, and leadership skills while discussing current events that impact participants' lives.
The competition is open to all active members of Kappa League programs across our international chapters. Participants must be enrolled in middle school or high school, and each team must be officially registered through their local Kappa Alpha Psi® chapter.
The Kappa League Debate Challenge has a proud history dating back to 1922, making it one of the oldest continuous debate programs for young men of color in the United States. The current national format was established in 1985.
Registration & Eligibility
Registration must be completed through your local Kappa Alpha Psi® chapter. Each chapter may register up to two teams annually. The chapter advisor must submit all required documentation, including participant waivers and academic verification, by the published deadline.
Each team must consist of 3-5 members, with at least 2 primary speakers. Teams may include researchers and analysts in addition to speakers. All members must be active participants in their local Kappa League program.
There is no registration fee for Kappa League members. The competition is fully funded through the generous support of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity and its sponsors. Travel expenses for national rounds are the responsibility of participants or their local chapters.
